The rise and rise of the bourjois busybodies

Haven't felt need to write a blog post.

Illness and winter = intertia

However, and as usual, am jolted back into 'angry mode' by latest politically correct do gooders (all of whom you could count the good they have done on an empty abbacus) laying into Morrisey and his comments on suicide being honourable.

Now everyone has opinions on suicide and more so those who have taken their own lives but what twats me off the most is these 'charitable figureheads' prattling on about the damage Morrisey's views do to others. Bollocks...and utter bollocks that is.

I doubt Tommy's decision to take his own life was based on any celebrity's stance on suicide and I actually think that there was some honour in Tommy's suicide. More so his absolute right to take his life if he felt it the only option for him. Could debate community's and local charity's role in his downfall alongside punitive attempts by MH Trust at providing appropropriate treatment and care for him, as the individual he was. Tommy is gone, FACT and all the meddlings of the middle classes at the 'soundbite' level aren't going to change that or much for anyone else who feels suicidal/attempts suicide in future. They really do over-estimate their significance in relation to real lives and deaths.

Going off on a tangent here because I have many thoughts bouncing around in my head about this....there is and should always be artistic license in an artist's work. I doubt the MH PC police would be seeking to have every copy of 'Romeo and Juliet' banished from the world because one of the key characters kills herself...and certainly her suicide is portrayed as 'honourable' (well I think so...but that could be another cause for debate).

Morrisey is an artist and one whose illness and experiences are reflected in his work. You don't have to like it. Is optional to buy it...but he sings and talks about what is real to him. A rarity in this world of highly commercialised and conveyor belt production music.

I guess if I heard one comment come forth from the mouths of the (doing nicely out of this racket) 'MH representatives', I might feel more inclined to let some crass statement by La Wallace go but, for fekk sake, is really like listening to a passerby telling a young child off for stealing a lolly from a shop, when, behind their back, a group of public shcool boys are ransacking the place..and that is giving La Wallace the benefit of the doubt. I actually think she is acutely aware of the games that are being played and rather deal with pressing issues such as the destruction of the NHS and betrayal of people with mental illness by charities...making a comment about Morrissey is more likely to guarantee her getting an interview with the media.

Shoddy, below the belt and typical of how these 'self proclaimed' figureheads behave.

The sooner they fekk off and find something useful to do...like stacking shelves in Sainsburies...the better!!!!!

  1. Marjorie Wallace and the other Mental Health Charity Directors and spokespeople now feel they have a right to police the culture for any pronouncements that they find politically incorrect even though the majority of them including Mind , Rethink and the Mental Health Foundation turned a blind eye when it was demonstrated that then Mental Health Commissioner David Crepaz Keay had been using and abusing his position as the Director of Mental Health Media to target service users and other charities through the ' The Psychotic ' website and hosting sites that were targetting drug and porn content at them too.

I don't remember la Wallace being prompted to write a letter of protest to anyone about Crepaz Keay's flagrant abuse ( nor Paul Farmer of Mind either even though he was one of those targetted by Crepaz Keay ) but then again, dealing with the rotteness within the UK MH charity sector or really campaigning on behalf of people with MH issues in practical ways that actually support them in their day to day lives takes a lot more effort than rounding on pessimistic outsider singer/songwriter Morrissey and accusing him of ' glorifying suicide and self harm' on desert Island Discs .Morrissey didn't glorify suicide or self harm in his conversation with Kirsty Young and one has to seriously question whether la Wallace even listened to the R4 broadcast. If I was Morrissey I would sue her.

The Manc crooner also has a history of depression and MH issues himself so one also has to question who she feels she was censoring him on behalf of.

I also note the Mental Health charities are stony silent on the stigma that has long been attached to suicide , again they are very selective when it comes to tackling stigma and discrimination, normally they wont do it at all unless it financially profits them too and boy have these charities milked the gullible public and grant making bodies for every penny they can get for ' representing ' their beneficiaries , who, like Morrissey here, aren't trusted to arrive at their own opinions and decisions by themselves.

No, people like David Crepaz Keay now posturing behind the fraudulent National Survivor User Network have to make up survivor and service users minds for them .

Apparently we can't be trusted to think or speak for ourselves as Mind, Rethink and the Mental Health Foundation et al assail the general public for discriminating against us and not treating us as equals.

Seems Mr Crepaz Keay , a recovered schitzophrenic by all accounts is more equal than all other people with MH issues as he has a way of making sure his fellow MH professionals always make sure the top jobs they need to be filled by onsiders go to him.

Give me Mozza over la Wallace , Farmer ( or Phil Pharmaceutrical as DCK calls him ) , Dr Andrew McCulloch and Crepaz Keay any day, at least he can be trusted to speak his own mind rather than to abuse his power and position to speak on behalf of or censor everyone elses.

  4. 65 year old Wallace is obviously not as mentally sharp as she once was and her unprovoked attack on Morrisey probably signals that its time for her to exit the stage of public life , by her own hand or otherwise.

  6. Hi Norm

Considering Sane only have their phone lines opened certain times (and if things are as they were a couple of year's back..only a couple of days each week)....I really don't think Marjorie Wallace can claim that her charity is doing it's best to help those who, for whatever reasons, feel suicidal.

Really, if Sane disappeared tomorrow would anyone (those of us with enduring illnesses) notice?

  7. They really don't have a clue do they. Having been so close many times I think suicide is a very difficult and personal decision. Certainly, the opinion of anybody in public eye doesn;t come into it. I mean when you are suicidal you don;t take into account the views of those relatives and friends closeset so why would whay Morrisey or anyone make any difference.

Just something to say to make her seem like they're doing good and justifying charitable donations.

  8. "Really, if Sane disappeared tomorrow would anyone (those of us with enduring illnesses) notice?"

I doubt it. Been wondering about you Mandy, good to see you back.

P.S. I've tried googling, but I don't know who you're referring to... I don't have a telly, so might not know what's what in the kulture-vulture.

    Take care, Dx

  9. Just shows how out of touch the MH charities are , this was an ideal opportunity to openly discuss suicidal thoughts as normal human behaviour a la ' The man who has never contemplated suicide has never contemplated life ' as well as trying to reach out to and connect with people feeling overwhelmed by life and drawn to suicide and self hasrming and looking at what practical and therapuetic support could be offered to them.

Instead its shocking headlines about ' Morrissey says he contemplated suicide! ' and Marjorie Wallace abusing her position for self-publicity.

It's really disappointing that we have such an immature and self-serving MH charity sector , it really is .

  10. On last post, this from Mind’s Chief Executive, Paul Farmer.

"The battle against discrimination, misunderstanding and the stigma of mental health is being fought in our favourite soaps, in popular radio and TV dramas and by actors, writers, journalists and broadcasters across the United Kingdom."

hmmmm no mention there about attacking people for daring to discuss suicide on Desert Island Discs.

Mr Farmer also forgot to mention that Mind is facing financial crisis due to dwindling donations and sponsorship and a change in Department of Health outsourcing policy and looks set to announce massive job losses.

Mr Farmer has spent more time trying to court friends in Government and the media and as a result he has threatened the very existence of Mind as a charity.

I hope the local Mind networks work to oust this pretender for squandering the resources and reputation of Mind .

  11. Hi Lareve

    Missed you :>)

I don't think any of these charity honchos have the faintest idea. I think they have become so detached (if they ever actually were attached) to people who are suffering that they say things on daft whims and deffo for some cheap and easy publicity.

After the weekend I just had I find the warblings of La Wallace irritating... like a scratch that you want to itch with a pitch fork!

Well I could actually be referring to any one of the charity leads. They all talk utter tripe.

On this occasion I was referring to what was said about a particular comment Morrissey made whilst being interviewed by Kirsty Young on Desert Island Discs. As Anon wrote earlier...La Wallace's focus was on one aspect of a conversation about Morrissey's life (and views) linked to music he liked.

I notice noboby has taken exception to Stephen Fry's comments about having mince for Christmas in the M&S advert. Oh what a very witty man he is...and everyone laughs. Ha! ha! ha! and double standards abound.

  13. Three years ago Paul Farmer chief executive of Mind was asked to set up an official blog on Mind's website for the charity to interact with its service users. Mind created the blog a couple of months ago and it barely has any comments as its so over moderated.

This free personal blog has more service users posting and commenting on it than Mind's corporate blog and that's very troubling as Mind is a multi million pound operation.

This pattern holds across all the Mental Health charities though . There is no committment to openess or allowing service users themselves to lead policy or express their own points of view.

Mind and many other national Mental Health charities face serious financial difficulties brought about by the recession and change in Government policy. Mind, rethink and the Mental Health Foundation worked overly close with Government expecting to be able to network contracts to each other but now the Government has decided that its re-election prospectects turn on keeping the NHS workforce onside so Andy Burnham has made it clear to the MH charities and third sector that the NHS will have preferred provider status.

As these charities feel the bite service users should campaign for

    1. A change of leadership

    2. Diversity at Directorship level
of national charities. The major charities are currently led by white middle class men. This has to change and creating Uncle Tom groups isn't the solution, we need real mainstream diversity.

    3. The MH charities need to open up to decision making to ordinary service users. The tale of Mind's blog shows how resistant to change and power sharing the MH charity sector is.

    4. The MH charity sector has to stop allowing itself to be used as a tool of Government Policy. The current leadership of the MH charity sector colluded to push Government policy.

    5. The MH charity sector must never again allow senior executives like David Crepaz Keay and Dr Andrew McCulloch to use their charities funds and resources to run black operations and anonymous websites attacking their service users and other charities. This resulted in drug and porn content being targetted at vunerable people. This activity harmed the reputation of the whole MH sector. There must be no more cover ups.

    6. The MH charity sector must stop trying to fraudulently represent service users. The major charities conspired to create the National Survivor User Network, a micro charity within a charity fronted by Together's Anne Beales and Mental Health Foundation's David Crepaz Keay. This MH charity controlled micro 'national network ' received £750,000 in funding but has nothing to show for it. It has never developed capacity , it has no reach and it is tightly controlled by a handful of people who already belong to paralel networks. It duplicates what already exists at vast expense to create impressions of
national unity and purpose. The National Survivor User Network is not an acceptable substitute for the MH charities really opening up and allowing service users to participate in decision making .

The recession and change in Government policy has given service users the chance to appeal to the public and funders to stop supporting Britain's major high street name Mental Health charities unless they take urgent steps to reform themselves.

When free blogs like this one give more of a voice to service users than the entire half billion pound MH charity sector something is dreadfully wrong.

I might come back to Mind at some point because is rather poignant in regards to my application for a Direct Payment but a bit too long winded to go into and people who have read my blog posts (over time) will know the sorry goings on at the local Mind day centre that led to me excluding myself from their 'really useful' activities.
