Bullying within Blogland...and while we are at it let's talk about stigma shall we!!!!

Another blog is likely to bite the dust. One of the few I venture to..one of the few I believe is written by someone who is genuine and not trying to become some MH celebrity or ,worse, hell bent on destroying others who don't agree with them.

Was kinda discussing this on Facebook the other day and for all that the MH elite will look down their noses at it, I have found many people there to be much more supportive than those (who do have or claim to have MH problems)out in Blogosphere. I think that says more about Stigma and Discrimination (as in where it's roots lie) than any anti-stigma campaign, I have come across, says!!!

One person came on to my FB page and wrote about 'countefoil' which is actually a clique of people whose sole purpose seems to be to harrass those who don't agree with an agenda they are following. Obsessive, I call that... but damn dangerous too because there are many vulnerable people who blog. Who find it an outlet, where they can express their feelings and experiences in ways they cannot in other areas of their life. Nasty little fekkers, sending private emails (not just the odd one either but in a pack) can actually push someone who is quite fragile over the edge. Do they give a damn? I doubt it...as long as they can carry on making out their the experts, all the time behind masks...all the time shifting from being ill, when they feel threatened to in recovery when there's something to be gained from it. Dolly Parton's tits are more real than they are and more impressive!!!!

I changed my blog and when I did I changed my attitude too. I got rid of the email option so if people have got the balls to express an opinion, they can do it openly on my blog. If not, they can keep their opinions to themselves. I haven't however, become a faceless wonder...when I go to other blogs (which gets less and less as time goes on), I go as myself and I also put my email address up before my comment gets posted...so they can email me if they wish. I am not frightened to stand up and be counted and defend my beliefs. Is not heroic..is just being honest.

What I won't tolerate is people I don't know sending me abusive mail because they haven't got the bottle to say what they think openly and on the rare occasion I do now get abusive emails, I simply write 'F off' back to them.

Blogland can be (and often is) swamped by a bunch of fakers, showing out, in order to be headhunted by the media. I don't think that makes for a fair and objective view of people with MH problems but such is life.

As for me, I will continue to write what I write, as I think and feel, depending on level of importance to me, other stuff going on in my life and my personal state of being at time.

Not going to let any snidey arsewipe (or groups of) stop me.

  1. You are right, but we know that. I feel a bit defeated they have got the outcome they wanted to stop me blogging but you know, it is doing me more harm than good. And I don't feel as strong as you or I once did, I can't face this virtual fight when each day living with my illness and facing the trust takes all the fighting I have. I need to concentrate on being the best I can in real life not in la la mental land. Appreciate support. x

  2. I fully understand why you are doing what you are doing, honey.

I am just disgusted by (but not surprised) the actions people have taken against you. As I said before, these things speak more about the sorts of people they are rather than those on the receiving end.

I actually think it will be in your best interest to get of Blogland..if only as a short term measure (which may turn out to be a longer one) because I think you do need to re-negotatiate with your local MH Trust...that is if they are prepared to stop personalising things and genuinely negotiate with you.

I also think Blogland can become a world that separates people from, rather than integrating them into society and life at large. All dependant on what parts of society people are aiming at integrating into. :>)

You know our friendship may have started on here but it will continue beyond it.

Support always here for you xx

  3. I am very sad that La-reve is stopping blogging, but I understand her reasons. I will miss her though; I have always liked her blog, as I hope she knows. I am lucky - I have never received any nasty emails; in fact I didn't even know it happened. It disappoints me a lot actually - I always think of MH bloggers as being very supportive of one another, and I think it is really terrible that there are people who will 'target' other bloggers. Bullying of the type you are describing seems really awful to me, and I don't understand it. I think on the whole I am too trusting though - I take virtually blogs I read at face value, and I don't ever think that it could be people faking/showing off. There are people I do find attention seeking, or perhaps sometimes a little melodramatic, but I always assume that the feelings that have lead them to write those posts are read. Sounds like I am being rather naive.

If you have found some genuine friends and support through Blogland that is a positive thing and I would hold on to it.

All I would say is be a bit careful because there are people who target others. I am not surprised I got targetted because I am honest to the point of bluntness and I won't follow the crowd or any agenda other than what my head and heart tells me are right.

I think it is awful that all Lareve ever did was tell the truth about how their illness affects them and express their frustrations with the local MH Trust.

As for dramatics, I think that, sometimes, is more to do with the horrors of the illness. I don't have issues with that either.

I have issues with lies, damn lies and bureaucracy lols

  5. Who are these nasty little fuckers? And what the fuck is in it for them?

Grrr. Makes me cross. But then there are plenty of poisonous insecure gits out there who probably enjoy picking on people they deem more fragile than themselves. Bullying always stinks.

    Hope you're well Mandy,

  6. Hi D

Got the joys of migraine city here. Am trying to clobber it with wafer thingy and loz but am a bit worried cos this is day 4 of having to medicate to max.

Not sure why I mentioned that...part of life stuff really.

I cannot comprehend why anyone would go gunning for Lareve. I mean, I am anti most of the crap that gets pumped out about recovery and 1 in 4 and all that so I know I am The one who must be avoided or got at (when people are given that opportunity) but Lareve has never been like that. It has been a more more personal blog about her experiences.

There are those who can't stand others who won't join their gangs or tow party lines..and they seem to delight in hunting in packs.

I am not in a position to give out names....as it wasn't me who was targetted and how I deal with this might be very different to how Lareve would, so best I not interfere in that way.

However, I do know one of them is a very prominent blogger and not at all how they represent themselves on blogland. That is as much as I will say..unless they wanna fuck with me!!!!

  8. For what its worth .

I've seen the digital brigades about of the new red-faced army some of whom migrated from being kept by NIMHE to still supporting bureaucracies that slither money away from the patient.

Of course they are using social media too so sadly some will be looking for arses to bayonet and ways to dance like fiery angels on others heads ..Redundancy awaits some of them.

At least page 20 of the White paper says this :

"Begin to introduce choice of treatment and provider in some mental health services from April 2011, and extend this wherever practicable;"

We will see . Dog rules, say the meat will go to the poodles though ...

Real patient choice in mental health was quietly opposed for years and so was being personally real . If you showed the system up for its imbalanced Users being in control of "involvement" and aiding the system re-create its controlling charity heads and its perverse "inclusion" ideas linked to recovery and getting everyone back to "work" (which never existed) then it was implicit that what was also shown up was the key state sponsored taboo/stigma against patient choice in mental health.

Individual pace and choice makes sense in a competitive environment which shakes up monopoly NHS crap

These fuckers in these brigades of the User-correct want only more oppression and state controlled lives in which they have false roles to feed off. Labour made that an endless new hell and expanding territory of sticky slithering ex-ward snakes ..They stole chances from everyone else.

It was lucrative to be false and falsify around individual needs and choices, and a lot of public money fed it . All inside the illusion of a non-work economy that was getting everyone back to "work" ...

So La-reve I'd say when you become personally real and pained and honest about yourself you will attract those that need to control others inside ideologies which benefit them and distract them from their own contradictions and failure.

The Acess and "Well Being" social inclusion model is still being pushed across the UK like some new Jerusalem - but it has a prison mentality where the screws are partly recruited from the patients who paradoxically push that everyone can work while they live inside just another perverse shadow-style of the mental health system without real Patient Choice .

I can only send a digital chocolate bar wrapped in some kindness..

    Take care ...

    @patient gnarded

see, i've always said it, if you can use three words where one will do you will..

but yes, picked up apr 2011 choice of gp, provider , consultant and service - see zenasylum for link to nursing times article too - but not much clarity around extent or how of last three but now of course its an inequality on commissioning side for gp , they dont have the right to treat mental health patients equally and to refer them to most appropriate consultant, provider venue, etc.

philosophically, there's no defence for excluding mental health services from patient choice now.

real joke is that after all pompous boffeting, yes that's a word , with FOIA exemptions the EHRC, including proximity of general election, finally claimed it had no info on Patient Choice but declined to acknowledge that i'd requested all discussions about all Choice in mental health not just Patient Choice which is a specific NHS rights based agenda.

i've been told i can have the decision reviewed but i think i'll just wait til the EHRC is abolished along with all the other useless quangos

  14. Hi Patient Guard

Long time no visits. How is the shit being shovelled around in your neck of the woods (viz a vie MH 'institutions'?)

I have to say I am sceptical of anything until it comes into being and then will see the affects of any 'choice' agenda the Tories reckon they are going make happen.

I will be glad if the quangos disappear because they have done so little for so many and so much for the chosen few! A bit like the MH charities. I just don't get how a charity can call itself representative whilst all the time pumping government for money...in line with political agendas. That just ain't right.

Anyway, let us see what happens to them with the Tories. Let us see how the charities position themselves now?

and now for something completely different...haven't seen a certain bunnyman around for ages :<(

There's no fucking hope ... But do not let that depress you anymore than how depressing it is anyway.

The Labour snake and ladder groups with their media greasy but slowed momentum are still playing with "Well Being" and "we'll recover you to work which never existed" lies.

The truth is Labour policy will be used as a way to boot out service Users into faster throughput flows ..Nice flows... Kinda has a polar ring doesn't it .

"Well Being" is the new DOH warmed world credo . It was a term taken originally from BP who are currently swirling lots of chocolate into the seas in the Gulf of Texico ..

UserWatch though - by way of no hope at all - has started: "Gutter Tent City Classes " in parts of the country ...

Competing with rats and some who have face masks of David Crepaz Boy-o is a social enterprise skill we are teaching Users with a new credo, pitched also in a bumderland magazine : "One is Flawed"

While some of us are slowly dying we have had fierce Office arguments about calling our new magazine : "The Big Tissue"

However one of our User intel officers with a filthy erotomania disposition named Daz and with fast wanking beat-the-30-seconds barrier-tendencies sniggered indecently at this .

Empathy is dead ... Long live the world of war and oil and banking scams which everyone pays for . However we do have double Panzer satire tanks in reserve . It gives a new meaning to being "Panzies" really ... We aim to rescue flowers and bullshit - maybe there's a sin-ergy there ...

Otherwise life is really grate and ropeful...

  17. Purple Bunny of Bunnington Day Centre has been seen with Pattern Jack who wears purple bandages because of his lost mummy (and daddy) ..

He has got this thing about the royalty of personal pain and making sorrow's heard ... The rule is:

"fuck everyone else - cry when you want to "

Only Purple Bunny as you know does not swear - he would say :

    "Buck rabbit up everyone else..."

Etc .... Its politer and lovely not like that wretch Daz whose UserWatch knows ..

    Jack told the psychiatrist :

"Deluded Jim was Ward King of Everything
With an inner child prince of fire
Tied to an inner board he had rocked to break wire
    He commanded emptiness and pain
    To fly
And sometimes in his throne ward corner
    I watched him scratch walled-impossibility
    And cry

He said he used to bite all history
And spit royal blood to give it shade
And it fought him in old dark parent armies
With a cultured soul fragmentation grenade

He finally danced with the dragon chariots
    And the motorway light maid
Past the swirling rocket merlin lights of night
    Arms de-socketed on the policeman's
    Intermittent blue-lit, and dark spade

King Jim was the power of us
    In pure modern community isolation
Purple to the core without help or integration

I wove a carpet of heart
Made of all I knew of his majesty's fears
And in the remaining lost community
    Bare threaded wards
    Of modern busted courtiers
We trod it silently with quiet tears ...

    King Jim was Everything
And sped to the castle of nights and lights
    In a chariot toss
    I bow before him too
    Wouldn't you ?
King Jim, of the province of Super Loss ."

And Jack looked up at the psychiatrist
    Whose head too was hanging
    And he thought
As his own soul was panging :

Its true there is gallows humour
    But on its last tomorrow
There is the fellowship of felt truth,
    Experience ,
    And of deep gallows sorrow...

  21. Yeah, you were nasty to be calling me a limelight seeker a while back. I never sought to promote myself, I just wrote stuff and even if the way I write annoys you, I never lied about anything nor have I tried to make myself some sort of pin up. If I've spoken to the press or whatever it's because I am trying to be helpful. I didn't mention it at the time but yeah, you really pissed me off when you said that.

Anyway, whoever was a dick to Lareve can fuck themselves. I'm kind of speechless that she's gotten hassle. I've stopped reading some blogs because there's an undeniable air of competition sometimes and I can't be bothered with it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh, Senean, imagine you turning up here, now. You always seem to be around when someone is being bullied behind the scenes.

Perhaps you can use your contacts to the bottom of it, find out who it is and why.

    ReplyDelete
  23. What do you mean by that?

I don't "turn up"- I read blogs and almost never comment on them, because I'd rather not. But Lareve's post infuriated me, hence my comment. I was taken aback and angered by it.

What "contacts"? A blogroll? I barely speak to other bloggers outside Facebook or in the comments section. I'd be massively surprised if it was any bloggers I knew because they don't seem the sort. I'm surprised in general about this as I can't see why someone would be horrible to Lareve.

    ReplyDelete
  24. So you don't network or have contacts on blogland?

And you would be surprised if it was someone who commented on your blog. Well, I wouldn't.

I wouldn't even be surprised if it was someone who has previously commented on Lareve's blog and has got the knives out for her now.

The fact that it was more than one person (possibly one winding up the others or just a group effort to be so savage) says that there was a level of connection there and as one of them was someone I have heard of and has a cult following of the party
faithfull...I think that says alot about how people portray themselves, levels of deception and what goes on in addition to 'pow wows' in open arenas.

I no longer assume people are telling the truth...I don't automatically trust bloggers but I don't have to. I don't really know them. They have very little real impact on what goes on in my life and actually at times when I did actually need real support...quite a few (who had previously been all 'warm and furry') buggered off sharpish cos I wasn't singing the recovery song.

I really don't give a toss now but I do give a toss when it is a group (small as it may or may not be) is hounding one person. Someone who has been a very good friend to me and doing it via private emails.

I have to ask why? and the only reason I can think is that they are twisted as fekk.

Anyway, you have said your piece and supported Lareve here. I think it would be much better for people to show their support for Lareve on her blog, particularly those who have nothing to do with me and vice versa.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have contacts in blogland in terms of people I read and who comment, but yeah, I'd still be surprised if it was certain people.

Anyway, Lareve hasn't told us exactly what happened. I'm surprised in general, I thought if there was anywhere we could expect people to be sensitive it'd be on mental health blogging. I didn't think this kind of thing happened, which is why I am shocked and pissed off. I like Lareve's blog (and Lareve, in as much as I can know her though it and her comments on mine) and i don't see any reason why anyone could attack her.

I already commented on Lareve's blog. And if she wants time away, that's healthy, I think. I believe, more and more these days, that blogging can be very counterproductive.

    ReplyDelete
  26. (And I also tend to trust that MH bloggers are who they say they are, because i don't see what's to be gained about lying about having a mental illness)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well, from what has happened on Lareve's blog...bullying behind the scenes is to be gained..although I do not think that is something that can be made a generalisation.

And people can be cajoled (sort of bullied) into being parts of things just to fit in. Another longer story but valid.

Some might excuse that behaviour because they assume that is what mad people do...I don't excuse it because it was calculated and co-ordinated not a kind of random act.

However, we make our choices in blogland and that, for me, is that.

I have bugger all to do with it, and the reason I "turned up swinging" was due to annoyance (and probably the two glasses of wine I'd had). I like Lareve and had never seen such a thing happen before, which probably says more about my naivity than anything else.

I'll step out now, I didn't mean to turn this into a discussion. Sorry for derailing, Mandy.

  32. NotTheAntiStigmaPolice22 July 2010 at 01:30

    Seaneen,

Well, that's honest about the booze - try google goggles for that, it can really save on the 'morning after ' grief as you're not the only one blogging half cut or monged out on whatever to cope with shit.
    .
Fact is people tend to act out online anyway , we all do in some ways and its to be expected in mental health circles because, as unfashionable as it is to admit it nowadays, a lot of people with mental health issues are ,well, mad.

I know , I know, there's this general media impression being put around that we spend most of our days pushing ourselves to the limits in the Himalayas , running barefoot marathons across the sahara and partnering with Mind to raise awareness of how stable we are and facepaint for jesus but i'm afraid the reality is a little more pedestrian, a lot of people suffering depression find it difficult enough to climb out of fucking bed in the morning and their days are made even more hellish by charity acolytes rushing round in fucking bright yellow smiley masks bent on instantly converting everyone to the Gospel of Recovery.

That's kind of what happened with Lareve and the joke is the people who tore into her routinely blog about their own crises and are hard pressed to keep their own gleeful Recovery on track for longer than a fucking week.

So, instability is pretty much the norm in MH blogland and people lash out at each other online because of this and for all the bulshit about social networking liberating people with MH issues people probably need to spend more time offline hugging trees or something.
